The Seventh-day Adventist Church is a Christian denomination distinguished by their doctrinal beliefs that the literal, visible Second Coming of Christ is close at hand, and that the Sabbath of the Old Testament is still relevant today and is God's true biblical Sabbath. I have met people who believe that if we think she is a prophet, then we ought to listen to her (they were mostly talking about vegetarianism). It does not contradict what official SDA publications say (such as SDAs believe - 28 fundamentals) or what EGW said.

There is a large amount of criticism placed on the authority that Ellen G. White is given and some of her teachings. It is believed that the authority White is given is contrary to the traditional Protestant sola scriptura view of the Bible as the sole inspired source of authority. Criticism is also made of some of the teachings of Ellen White such as a statement on Christology found in a non-official book Seventh-day Adventists Answer Questions on Doctrine, and her view on the necessity of a belief in an "investigative judgment" , e.g. http://rockyridgeorganicfarms.com/books/the-search-for-the-true-church. History reveals that it was decades after the death of the apostles that a politico-religious system repudiated the Sabbath of Scripture and substituted the observance of the first day of the week. The following quotations, all from Roman Catholic sources, freely acknowledge that there is no Biblical authority for the observance of Sunday, that it was the Roman Church that changed the Sabbath to the first day of the week http://nickel-titanium.com/lib/astronomy-and-the-bible. Consistent with Calvin's political ideas, Protestants created both the English and the American democracies. The Adventist Church grew out of the Millerite movement, which was based on the teachings of William Miller. Miller believed the Bible had within it coded dates for the end of the world and claimed that the second coming of Jesus Christ was to occur between 1843 and 1844. Once the date passed without Jesus' return, some abandoned the tradition while others continued, believing they had misinterpreted scripture , e.g. http://nickel-titanium.com/lib/person-to-person.
