However controversy over new standards and teaching methods remained at least as heated as that over the new math in the 1960s and 1970s. learning process, but are perceived as fundamentally determining the quality of the learning.

Environment software affords a range of possible investigations allowing students to experience “real” world applications of mathematics interactively. However, any math teacher will tell you that there is always that teachable moment that you cannot anticipate. It could be argued that if students seldom use long division after leaving school then it might be better for them to have a simpler and more intuitive method at their disposal - one that is easier to remember and understand.

This videotape, and a 30-page booklet produced in lieu of a workbook, shows the classroom implementation of the entries of the first-place winners.
