Very good playing instrument, the valve is balanced and the action is very fast and short. This gives you the clarity from the thin refined bell of the Mt Vernon and the nice orchestral weight from the New York slide. It's a rare opportunity to own a instrument like this as they don't come up often. This gold bell is particularly nice, good medium weight thickness that gives solid feedback on your chops. The short waves, on the other hand, are better able to travel into the rapidly widening bell.

The use of a contrabass trombone almost always requires the addition of a fourth player to the trombone section and while in the past parts for the instrument were sometimes played on a tuba or, more recently, a bass trombone, it is nowadays considered unacceptable to use anything but a contrabass trombone to play these parts, at least in professional settings ref.: http://1-million-link.com/lib/edward-german-first-division-band-course-trombone-solo-with-piano-accompaniment-shepherds.
